How many UK funding rounds are announced each week?

In the Lockley index, 395 funding rounds were recorded in the week to 15 October 2026, against 795 the week before. Weekly counts swing widely, so read them as a range.

Written from Lockley's index and the sources below, updated 16 October 2026.

In the Lockley index, 395 funding rounds were recorded in the week from 8 to 15 October 2026, against 795 in the week from 1 to 8 October. That is a fall of 400, or about half. The honest answer to how many UK funding rounds are announced each week is therefore a range, not a single number, and a seller should plan around the swing rather than a headline average.

Where the numbers come from

The count draws on Companies House and public announcements. Companies House filings, such as a statement of capital after shares are allotted, give a dated, official trace of money coming in. Public announcements add rounds that a company or investor has chosen to publicise. Each record is counted by the date on the record, not the date we found it.

The index covers 5,578,743 active UK companies, every company Companies House lists as active, counted 15 October 2026. A funding round in the index is a record attached to one of those companies.

Why the count halves in a week

Two weeks is not a trend. Filing dates cluster: a company may announce a round and file the paperwork days or weeks later, so a quiet week can be followed by a catch-up. Holidays, quarter-ends and the timing of investor announcements all move the counts. We have not tested a seasonal explanation for this particular fall, so we do not claim one.

For a seller, the practical point is that a week with fewer records is not a week with fewer opportunities in your niche. Filter to your sector and size, and the count that matters is the number of companies you could sensibly call, which is far smaller than the national figure.

What a funding round is worth as a signal

A round is a reason to call because the company has just been given money to spend. Typical spend areas are hiring, premises, software and professional services, depending on the stage. Use the record to open: name the round, say what you saw, and ask what the money is meant to change.

Check the signal before you call. Our guide on checking a UK buying signal sets out the steps, and the guide on how fresh a signal should be explains why a round that is a month old is usually still worth a call but a six-month-old one rarely is.

How to use weekly counts

Track your own sector's count over several weeks rather than reacting to one. If you sell to a narrow group, even a single week's count may be a handful of companies, and each of them deserves a proper look. If you want the whole list, rather than the count, Lockley delivers the day's best matches with the record linked.

Questions

How many UK funding rounds were recorded this week?

395 in the Lockley index for 8 to 15 October 2026.

How many the week before?

795, for 1 to 8 October 2026.

Is this the total number of UK funding rounds?

No. It is the number recorded in the Lockley index from Companies House and public announcements, by the date on the record. Rounds that are never filed or announced will not appear.

Why do the counts differ so much between weeks?

Filing and announcement dates cluster, so counts swing. We have not established a single cause for the latest fall.

Can I get the companies behind the count?

Yes. Lockley's daily list links each company to the record behind it.
