How many director changes are filed at UK Companies House each week?

In the week to 13 October 2026 Lockley counted 32,242 director changes filed, against 57,788 the week before. Most are routine; the useful ones are the small number that suggest a company is changing.

The short answer

In the week from 6 to 13 October 2026 Lockley counted 32,242 director changes filed at Companies House, by the date on the record. In the week before, 29 September to 6 October, it counted 57,788. Counts of this size are too large to call on directly, which is why a raw count is not a prospect list.

Why the number swings

The week-on-week gap is large, 25,546 fewer filings in the latest week. Counts by the date on the record can move because of filing patterns, such as batches filed together, and because the most recent days may not yet be complete. Treat one week as a snapshot and compare several weeks before drawing a conclusion. Our guide on why weekly counts swing explains this in more detail.

What a director change records

An appointment or a termination of a director is normally filed with Companies House within 14 days of the event, according to third-party guides to the AP01 and TM01 forms; confirm the current rule on GOV.UK. The record shows who joined or left and when. It does not say why.

Which changes are worth a call

Most changes are administrative: a company secretary tidying up, a family business adding a spouse, a dormant company closing. A change is more interesting when it affects a decision maker in the area you sell to, when several officers change at once, or when it follows another signal such as a new charge or a first hire. Our guide to finding UK companies after director changes sets out how to filter.

Reading the counts with care

A count is a measure of activity at Companies House, not of intent in the market. A large week can come from a handful of filing firms submitting in bulk for many clients. The useful habit is to ask of any single change: who left, who arrived, how senior is the role, and what else has changed at the company in the last ninety days.

Context matters too. A new finance director and a new charge in the same month point to something different from a new director alone. Sellers of software, recruitment, advisory and insurance services often find that pairing more reliable than either record on its own. Lockley's list is built from such pairings, with each underlying record linked.

How Lockley uses it

Lockley reads officer filings every night alongside charges, contracts, job postings, planning registers and company websites, and links each finding to its source record. The morning list carries the few companies where a change plus another dated event gives a reason to call.
