How can a UK sales team find companies that just won a public contract?
Read the award notices on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender, which name the winning supplier. Lockley recorded 8 awards this week and 20 contracts ending, so check the dates.

A UK sales team can find companies that have just won a public contract by reading the award notices that public bodies publish on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender. Each award names the winning supplier, the date the contract was entered into and its value, so you get a company, a date and a reason to call from one public record.
The hard part is not access, because both services are free. It is volume and timing: notices arrive daily in different formats, and the useful moment to call a supplier is soon after the award, while it is mobilising.
What the notices contain
Once a contract above £25,000 has been awarded through a procurement process, the contracting authority must publish information about it on Contracts Finder. The minimum is the winning supplier's full company name, the award date, the total value in pounds, and whether the supplier is an SME or a voluntary, community or social enterprise.
Because the supplier is named, you can match it to its Companies House record and see who runs it, how old it is and where it is based. That turns a procurement notice into a researched prospect.
Why a win is a reason to call
A supplier that has just won public work usually needs things: people to deliver it, equipment, insurance, premises, finance, software and professional advice. Recruiters, insurers, equipment lessors, accountants and software sellers can all say, truthfully, that you noticed the win and explain how you help.
The strength of the reason depends on the value and the sector. A large facilities contract creates real hiring and mobilisation needs. A small consultancy award may not.
The other end of the contract
Contract end dates are just as useful and often overlooked. When a public contract is about to finish, the incumbent has a revenue gap to fill and the authority is likely to retender. Sellers to the incumbent can ask what comes next; competitors can watch for the new tender.
Lockley's own September 2026 record shows 28 public contracts reaching their end date across 25 UK companies. Counts swing week to week: 2 contracts ended in one week and 20 the next, so the picture depends on the dates, not on a steady rate.
One caution: the award figures here count notices by the date on the record, and authorities do not always publish promptly, so recent weeks are often revised upwards. A low count this week, such as 8 against 50 the week before, may partly reflect notices still to come rather than fewer contracts being let.
Doing it well
Filter by the sectors you sell into and by value, so you read ten notices rather than a thousand. Check the award date, since a notice can be published some time after signature. Look for a second signal such as a senior hire or a new site before you call, and keep the link to the notice so it can be checked.
Lockley reads Contracts Finder and Find a Tender nightly alongside Companies House, job postings and company websites, and links each finding to the record behind it. It gives a small B2B sales team a short list each morning rather than a feed to sift.
Questions
Are public contract awards free to search?
Yes. Contracts Finder and Find a Tender are free government services.
What does an award notice tell me?
At minimum the supplier's name, the award date, the contract value and whether the supplier is an SME or a voluntary, community or social enterprise.
What is the difference between Contracts Finder and Find a Tender?
Contracts Finder publishes opportunities and awards, with lower thresholds for English public bodies; Find a Tender covers higher-value procurement. Lockley reads both.
Is a contract ending a sales trigger?
It can be. The incumbent faces a revenue gap and the authority is likely to retender, which gives suppliers and competitors a reason to act.
Does Lockley sell the winners' contact details?
No. Lockley does not sell contact lists or bulk email data.
